David Tankersley - Proprietor

In 1976 I began my cartographic career working for the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, Soil Conservation Service, making soil maps and atlases. A few years later I took up with Marshall Penn-York Co. Inc., a commercial map company located in Syracuse NY, where I spent the next 25 years as Chief Cartographer and Production Manager. Since then, I have been working as an independent custom cartographer, primarily working with several outstanding Commercial Map Companies and also Local, State & Federal Government Agencies.

I guess you could say that I love making maps. To work at anything for that length of time you would almost have to. I can recall an incident that took place back when I was in the 7th grade; After handing in a History assignment (which included making a territory map), my teacher made the following comment "You did a nice job here David. Maybe you should consider doing this for a living some day". I'll never forget it. Little did I know at the time how prophetic that one little comment would be.

In-between mapping projects, I also spend my time as a professional photographer. I consider myself extremely fortunate to work at the two occupations I love the most.
